Kids Behind The Blog: Thanksgiving Edition

Hi Foxy Friends! I saw my friend Danielle and Dara were hosting the Kids Behind the Blog series and had to join in on the fun! So let get started.

Baby Fox

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Or a different fall holiday? Thanksgiving

What is your favorite Thanksgiving (or fall holiday) tradition? When we go to see our cousins (but not this year due to COVID)

Best food to eat? Cranberry sauce and the turkey and the yams with marshmallows on top and corn on the cob.

Do you watch football? No, it would be cool, but no.

Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Or something else? Pumpkin pie definitely!

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Or a different fall holiday?
We celebrate Thanksgiving.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving (or fall holiday) tradition? Going to our cousins house (but not this year *insert sad face*)

Best food to eat? I think, the Turkey and the mashed potatoes and the corn...on the cob, with butter (funny we're never had that before for Thanksgiving).

Do you watch football? No, not really.

Apple pie or pumpkin pie? Or something else? Tough decision, oh wait, not a tough decision, totally pumpkin pie!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Although this year will be a bit different, we're still going to have a great day and be Thankful for everything that we have and each other.

How To Tie Dye From Start To Finish

Hi Foxy Friends! I know it's been a while. I always have all these intentions to blog, but then I just don't. Take this post for example...I started writing this over a month ago, and actually made these shirts back in April. Working from home and trying to keep the kids occupied is hard. I mean you all know what I mean. And then I just haven't had the mojo to do anything. Don't worry though, I've been taking lots of videos and pictures of things that I have been doing, so the content is there, just haven't been motivated. I did these Tie Dye shirts in April...so that's how far behind I am...oops.

In any case, it's here now. As I was watching videos and tutorials on how to Tie Dye, I realized that NONE of them ever covered how they were washing them. Do they do them separate, together, 5 million loads of laundry?! I needed to know, so I figure you would want to know the process of tie dying from start to finish. So let's get started. Here is a list of everything I used:

Video if you are more a show me how to do it type of person, like me.

What You'll Need:

Tie Dye Kit Womans T-Shirt Womans Long Sleeve Hoodie Womans Cropped Hoodie Kids T-Shirts Kids Sweatshirt

Plastic Drop Cloth
Disposable Foil Tray Color Catcher

Directions:

Step 1 - Get Shirts wet, wring out as much as possible.

Tip: If you have a lot of shirts to do, put in washer in a rinse and spin cycle (mine is10 minutes), saves your hands from having to wring out all those shirts/sweatshirts!

Step 2 - Tie up/rubberband shirts. There is no real wrong way to do this. The classic tie dye shirt is the swirl method. But I really like the scrunch method.

Tip: It's okay to start rubberbanding and then realize it's not working to start over. Don't get frustrated, just keep going.

Step 3 - Fill dye bottles with water. The set that I bought, came with small bottles, so I switched the powder dye into larger bottles and filled with water.

Tip: Careful when shaking bottles, as some bottles are not completely shake proof.

Step 4 - Start dying your shirts/pants/socks, whatever!

Tip: use a foil baking pan, put shirt in it and dye inside of that, makes for way less of a mess. Of course also put protective plastic under that, can never be too careful!

Another Tip: Remember which colors when mixed together will make other colors. Sometimes we forget and we put Blue and and Yellow near each other and you get a lovely shade of green...sometimes we don't want that.

Step 5 - Put in baggie and let sit overnight or 24 hours. The more pigment you want, the longer you should let it sit. If you want the colors to be pastel, let sit for shorter amount of time, 12ish hours.

Step 6 - Take clothes out of baggies and rinse. If you want to keep the white part of your shirt, white, rinse first with the rubbers bands still intact. When it starts to rinse clear, take rubber bands off and continue to rinse until water runs clear.

Tip: If you want to keep the white whiter, then rinse your shirt/sweatshirt before taking off the rubber bands. Rinse as much color out as you can before taking those rubber bands off.

Step 7 - Wash clothes. To save on laundry, wash like colors together. Use a color catcher to catch the inevitable dye that still has the potential to ruin your whole project!

I also put two shirts together that were not in the same color range and it worked out. I wouldn't do that if I actually cared, but I made sure that the water ran clear when I was rinsing and used a color catcher. Watch the video above to see how I washed my shirts exactly.

Step 8 - Put in dryer and enjoy your results!

So that's it, from start to finish this is how you make and wash your tie dye shirts!
Of course if you are a video person, here is a video for you to watch.

Holiday Decororations Tour

Hi Foxy Friends! I know you've all been waiting for this...okay not really. And truth be told, I didn't finish decorating until yesterday so I could do this post for you...so there you have it #alwaysbehind. Anyway, I got it up, so that's what counts, right? So let's get started. One day I'll do a video on it, but today is not that day.

This is considered our "Fancy" Christmas Tree. I actually took a picture before putting up the garland on the stairs so you can see it a little better. Also if you want to see a video on how I decorate this tree, click here.

I also do garland on the stair case. I think next year I might add some more to it, I'm ready to add more, I ran out of time this year...I feel like the days are just swishing by!

Then we have a Christmas tree upstairs that is for all of the ornaments that we get from family and friends and the ones that I had growing up. It's fun to put them on the tree with the kids each year and explain each ornament to them. They love hearing the stories.

Moving onto the tree in the black carpet room (what my daughter calls it), we put a tree in here, becasue typically it is where we set up the drinks and dessert for Christmas dinner, and it's just fun to have a tree there. My mom came over and decorated this one, birthday themed for Baby Fox.

Mr. and I also do a themed birthday tree where we put his birthday gifts. Here are the themes over the years. This year is going to be Lego, we haven't put it up for him yet. Usually we do it on a random night so he can wake up to it. This is from 2015

Last year I saw someone put wreaths on their kitchen cabinets and I knew I wanted to do it again. But I forgot, until Andrea reminded me when she put them on her kitchen cabinets. Copied. This might be my new favorite addition this year. I don't ever want to take it down...

I got the wreaths (they're called Grapevine Wreaths if you wanted to know). You can find them here or here. The ones found here, come in different sizes. So the wreaths on the bigger doors are 8" and the wreaths on the smaller doors are 6", in case you wanted to know.

Our mantel is fun, I just love a good decorated mantel.

We have our manger set up on the table just by the front door. I'm thinking I want to change out that picture so it's holiday themed...

Back to the kitchen, this is where we display our Christmas cards. You can see how I did it here.

If you want to know how to make the cute clips, click here and here.

And last thing I'm going to share are these fake canvas prints I made. I made them for less than $5, I feel better about that, because I only hang them for a couple of months out of the year.

You can see a glimpse over to the right the area behind my kitchen sink. Truth be told I did half of these decorates yesterday. I didn't get around to finishing the area behind my sink. But when I do, I'll make sure to update this post for you!

So what do your decorations look like? Go over to The Blended Blog to link up your decorations!
