Show and Tell Tuesday - Giving Back

Linking back up with Andrea for another Show and Tell Tuesday. This time she's asking us about service organizations we are involved with. When I was in college I was in a service organization called Sursum Corda, it was some of the best times, and I met some of my best friends in that group. Since college I have volunteered at things here and there, but, and it's said I have to add this, I just don't find the time as much as I used to.

That being said the most recent charity thing I've been involved with is Thomas House.

I had mentioned a few weeks back that I went to a Gala to raise money for them and their cause. I think this is such a worthy cause and really reminds me of Good Shepard, one of my favorite volunteer things in college.

Thomas House is a place that provides a safe and supportive environment to families with children to help them get back on their feet. While at the Gala we actually got to meet Sandra and hear her story. She is doing well and attending college all because she and her family had Thomas House to support them when they needed it.

At the end of the night they said if you hadn't bid on anything that you could still help by placing your number in a backpack that was being passed around and that would be donating $100 for a backpack and all of the supplies the kids would need for the school year for one student. Sandra had mentioned that she was always on the receiving side of the backpacks and didn't realize how much love, support and work went into providing those backpacks to her and her brothers each year.

My friend has been asked to be a co-chair for next years Gala and I intend to help out as much as I can, in whatever way I can. For now I have "adopted" one of the kids for Christmas and am currently going through his Christmas list and trying to get everything he needs.

When I got home I told Mr. that it was such a great organization and that it was something that I think I really wanted to get involved with when the kids got a little older. For now we will donate when we can and help out anyway we can. I'm looking forward to getting the little foxes involved with volunteering and helping others.

What charities do you support and why? Leave it in the comments below!

S'mores without the Camping

Friday night dinner, usual thumb wars happening.

We saw these* at Target online, and had to get them. Of course Mr. and I got a pair for ourselves too. But you'll have to wait for ours, I currently can't get mine over my cast, haha! But if you want them, you have to go now, they are running out fast! The men and toddlers are sold out online. And they are by one get one 50% off...of course I didn't get that deal...darn!

Getting a picture of both of them at the same time, impossible.

Hey at least they are both looking in this one...

After trying to get pictures, we played some hide and seek, we were hiding in Mr.'s office.

and then they attacked him.

After I put the kids to bed I headed out to the movies with my mom and sister. I guess they just recently changed some of the theaters into VIP, so we paid an extra $3 but got reclining chairs...Which worked out for me, since I was a little worried bout not keeping my foot up for 2.5 hours. Sexy cast and boot right? Can you all guess what sweater I am wearing?

In case you didn't get it, here's my outfit I wore on Friday night. And it really is the MOST comfortable sweater* in the world! Yes it's expensive, but if you wait for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale it's much more "affordable", I say that in quotes because it's still expensive for a sweater. But you'll be wearing it almost every cold day of the year...so cost per wear is definitely low (girl math right there)

Oh and we saw The Intern, so cute and yes I cried, I'm such a baby.

Saturday we decided that Mini Fox was still sick enough that we didn't want her relapse, so we had my parents take her for the day while we went to my cousin's kid's 1st birthday party. We missed Mini Fox, but did not miss the whining we would have gotten had she been there. The party theme was S'mores, so cute, she did a camp theme everywhere.

Trail Mix to make for the road, although my kid made one right when we got there.

Super cute right?

They had a pizza guy making pizza in their driveway, yum! Funny, this guy has been to two other parties we've been to. Random.

She had all of the fixings for S'mores...

Baby Fox thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Birthday boy wasn't so sure about his cake...

OH and we finally got a cousin picture...usually we just take a picture of all of the kids, but this time we took a picture of us! This is only some of them, but it was great to get to see all of them and catch up.

Sunday morning snuggles with this guy, we were watching The Lego Movie.

This girl helped me make pancakes. She's a really good stirrer...she's going to be a great help in the kitchen one day.

The plan was that Daddy was going to take Mini Fox to the store with him, but that didn't really work out, so we played outside instead and I worked on a craft that I have been meaning to do for a year, no joke I bought all the materials last year. (The laptop was to try and find a tutorial, which I didn't really find a great one, so I made it up as I went.)

The kids seemed to be doing good, so Daddy snuck off to the grocery store.

This kid is going to give me a heart attack.

Oh and guess who didn't have enough stuff to finish her project...boo! But the part I did finish I really liked.

Look at this ginormous rose that is growing on our side yard? So pretty. Reaching for the Heavens.

And that was the last picture I took on Sunday. The rest of the day was lunch, naps, dinner, baths, more play time.

How was your weekend?

Friday Favorites #51

Hands down my favorite picture this week:

Old Navy was having some killer deals yesterday and I snagged this vest*. I might have also bought it in burgundy and olive only because I wasn't sure which color I wanted. I'm fairly certain the white, and then maybe one of the colored ones...and then I thought, hey why not add a couple in for my mom too...shhhh, don't tell her. So cute right? And apparently it's fleece lined.

She told me this snake was her Elsa hair...adorable.

With the kids being sick naps have taken a back seat to sniffles and runny noses and coughs...today they both napped, score! Mr. says that we should get rid of the video monitors, I say NEVER! Okay not never, but do I have to? What are your thoughts? Really I only use it for bedtime, so when I go to bed instead of walking into their room I check the monitor.

I decided I'm going to make this cake for Baby Fox for his birthday. I'm so excited to make it...I want to do a test run, but then I don't want Baby Fox to see it either...decisions, decisions...I just bought all of the supplies last night, yay!

What was the best part of your day? Hope you have a good weekend. We're headed to a birthday party for my cousin's kid and hanging around the house, hoping Mini Fox gets better.

P.S. Mini Fox is staying behind for the party so she can rest and get better with my parents.

The Last

I was going through old posts...trying to find something and I came across this post and thought I would do it again, because it's fun.

The Last -

Person I texted: My sister, she texted me to tell me that a friend of ours kid wrote down that Baby Fox was his cousin. Which isn't too far off since we do spend Christmas with them every year. I think if you spend Christmas together you're family.

Movie I Watched:  The November Man. Have you seen it? It's on Netflix and it's sort of James Bondish which is funny since it stars Pierce Brosnan. It's a little complicated plot, but Mr. and I both enjoyed it. And it's on Netflix so no renting anything involved.

Person I Talked To On The Phone: Mini Fox's doctor. I called to see if we should bring her in. They said only if I wanted, but they really thought it was a virus...poor thing, her voice is all scratchy and is hacking up a storm and can't breathe...makes for problems in her pacifier world.

The Last Package To Arrive: I'm really embarrassed to say this, but this is what my front door looks like. I haven't had time to open them. Some of them are Christmas gifts for the kids so I can't open them in front of them, and then I forget to open them when they are in bed.

Outfit I wore:

Weeeelllll, I've been living in shorts and t-shirts. Shorts because I can't get pants over my cast, and t-shirts because I need access to my upper arms for my allergy shots, fun times. I just took a picture right now what I'm wearing. I washed my hair today, you're welcome :) And I haven't worn make-up since before the surgery and I'm not hating it :) Excuse the mess in the background, I was blogging on my kitchen counter.

Thing I cooked:

I cooked a tri-tip on the grill in the dark last night. I should have taken a picture, bad blogger.  I also made a baked potato and rubbed some oil, and garlic salt on it, threw it in the oven, crispy on the outside yummy on the inside. My favorite way to eat a baked potato. (If you want to do it too, make sure you microwave and cook the potato fully before putting the oil and garlic salt on it.)

Thing I ate:

Said tri-tip and bake potato...oh and peas. It was yummy.

Picture I took on My iPhone:

Sadly it was of Mini Fox being all sick yesterday. She was just feeling miserable and so I took a picture of her to send to Daddy. He brought home ice cream.

Show I watched:

Grey's Anatomy, I seriously love that show! Although this season isn't as good as last season...hoping it picks up. All you Grey's fans out there, what are your thoughts on this season?

Game I Played On My iPhone:

Umm...I don't have any games on my iPhone, but I did play what was the numbers games that everyone was obsessed with a while back? Oh...2042, or something like that. After I beat that I stopped playing, then I got a new phone and it went away, and I haven't loaded any games since. Any games you guys recommend? The last board game was Hungry, Hungry, Hippo, where my kids wiped the floor with me. Mini Fox was probably the best player...a 2 year old...

That's all for today. I think I'll do these once a quarter or something, it's fun to go back and read what I wrote the last time :)

What was the last thing you ordered online? Anything I should know about?
