Best Workout Clothes For The Summer

Hi Foxy Friends! Fact about me: I cannot workout in pants, super cold outside, you'll find me in shorts freezing my butt off. Okay it doesn't get that cold here, but even if I did live somewhere really cold, like where Deena or Abbie lives...heck even Lana, I would still be wearing shorts. If I do wear pants, heat rash within minutes of getting hot. Not pleasant. Okay moving on. I have been looking for YEARS for new workout shorts, I've been wearing the same ones since before I got married 14 years ago! For reals...pathetic. But I finally found them, and they're priced reasonably too! Give me one in every color please.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4

In case you didn't notice I am short, so I need shorts about 3" in length to make them look normal. #1 is shorter than #2, both come up to my belly button so it hides the muffin top, tucks it all in. Good for me. I was beginning to think all shorts were made for people pre-kids with no hips. Thanks Champion and Old Navy for FINALLY coming through for me! So what's your favorite workout gear lately?

21 Day Fix: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Hello Foxy Friends! Back a few weeks ago, I had mentioned that Mr. and I are doing the 21 day fix. It's been about 6 weeks since we started here are my 5 thoughts on the 21 Day Fix , the good, the bad, and the ugly.

*Some of the links are affiliate links and I will  either receive a small commission, at no cost to you, if you click on it or if you make a purchase from one of these links, I may also receive a commission on the sale of the product. Click here for my disclosure page.

In case you don't know what the 21 Day fix is (from the website):

It's not another diet. In fact, it's EXACTLY the opposite. 21 Day Fix lets you EAT! Only in just the right portions, so you don't feel miserable and deprived—but you CAN finally start losing weight.
What's the secret? Our seven exclusive containers. Each one is color-coded for a different kind of food, and pre-measured for the precise portion. You'll never have to "eyeball" your measurements again—if it fits in the container, you can eat it!
Combine this eating plan with one 30-minute workout a day. That's all. It's that simple!

Okay let me break that down for you: you buy small containers, each container representing a food group. You calculate how many containers you get daily based off of your weight and then prep food so you just grab and go and you do the 21 day fix 30 minute daily workout. Simple right? So here are my thoughts.

One: The Good - It Works!

It works! It really, really does work, if you follow the meal plan and the exercise it works. We needed to jump start getting healthy and back on track, so we used this to do just that and it worked! Mr. lost a total of 8 pounds and I lost a total of 4 pounds. Both of us while the numbers on the scale don't say much, feel better, healthier and our clothes are fitting much better, and my stomach is definitely flatter. I don't have that muffin top with my jeans when sitting down, you know what I'm talking about.

Two: Some More Good - Healthy Lessons

Green = Veggies, Purple = Fruit, Red = Protein, Yellow = Carbs, Blue = Dairy, Orange = Seeds and Nuts,
Portion control friends. Mr. and I have our breakfast and lunches pretty dialed in, but when it came to dinner we were portion out of control! Seriously we would just eat until we could barely move, it was bad! But why stop when something tastes so good! And literally we were doing just that, every single time. With the little containers, and when I say little, I mean LITTLE! Actually it's shocking when you see how little they are. Anyway, over the first 21 days it really taught us how much we should actually be eating. Instead of taking seconds or thirds, we know that that was enough food, and we don't really NEED any more, we are just eating to eat. So we stop.

I typically will eat one of these two things for lunch and dinner.

This was taken on the first week and I was ambitious with making fancy meat, after that first week, grill chicken or steak and call it a day.

Three: Even Better - Exercise

Ignore all of the toys....gotta do what you gotta do right?
The 30 minutes videos are doable! Actually I had been thinking about doing the 21 Day Fix for a while, but then I saw my friend Nicole doing it, and rocking it and she gave me the motivation to take the leap, so thank you Nicole! You were the kick in the pants that we needed :)

My favorite days were the Dirty 30 and the Upper Fix, least favorite was Yoga...actually I'm going to be honest, I hate yoga...a lot so I didn't even try it. But Mr. said it was pretty awful.

Four: The Bad - Hunger

I know they say that you shouldn't be hungry, but I was. I was always hungry. There wasn't a time when I was hungry. But we sort of knew this because I have a super fast metabolism when I'm working out and I went from working out 2-3 times a week to 7 times a week. But was eating less food. So you do the math. Yes I was trying to lose a little weight, so ultimately to lose weight you need your calories in to be less than your calories out...so it definitely did it's job.

Five: The Ugly - Sustainability

For us the 21 day fix is not really sustainable long term. You get burned out, the food prep alone is time consuming (the first week it took me about 6 hours!) and that is not really sustainable for longer than a couple of rounds of The Fix. By week 3 we had gotten rid of all of the fancier time consuming prep food and went super easy. Like nothing had more than 2 ingredients. haha.

It was nice that the food for the week was planned out and all we had to do was grab and go, but I just don't want to spend my Sunday's food prepping all day and having the kids sit around and do nothing.

You can use these containers, which we love for keeping all of your food organized.

This post is getting too long so I'm going to break up it up and tell you how we are doing now that we're over 6 weeks in, how we food prep, and what we're eating and what I think about it now that I'm not in it, stay tuned.

Have you tried the 21 Day Fix? What are your thoughts?

That Time I Ran a Half Marathon

Okay, so maybe it wasn't that long ago, 2 weeks...but now I'm left with, now what? I spent the last 3 months running over 200 miles trying to train for this sucker...I knew what I was going to be doing every other day, running, and running, just keep running. But now that I'm done, I'm not sure what to do. This week I went to my beloved cardio kickboxing class, this used to be my favorite form of exercise, after class I felt great, but I feel like it's not enough any more. I have a love/hate relationship with running, I like the way I feel after I'm done, but hate almost every moment while I'm doing it. This could be the heat talking...where is Fall? Weather.com says it's supposed to be 97° tomorrow, huh? I want cooler weather please, thanks! I digress, I signed up for personal training sessions (okay I didn't sign up as they told me I had unused sessions left from 2005! Yep 2005, heck ya I'll take them!) I had my first session on Thursday, still don't know how I feel, got a good workout, but it's not something we can afford to keep up. What is your exercise regime?

What's a post without pictures? Here's me at mile 12.5 or so...only 0.6 miles left, I can do it!

Me and Baby Fox, yep we got him up at 4am to come with me to the run, he stayed awake the whole time and then took a 5 hour nap when we got home (does that even count as a nap?)

If you ever do run a 1/2 marathon try out the Disney Half, it's Labor Day weekend every year and it's a fantastic first one to do. You run through Disneyland, California Adventure and actually run through Angel Stadium (with people cheering for you), it was an awesome first 1/2 marathon.
